Professional mental health and physical health coaching works through a relationship designed and defined in agreement between the coach and the client and is based specifically on what the clients’ goals, objectives, and interests are.
Professional coaches make requests, inquiries, reflect and have open discussions with their clients to help their clients identify their own personal and life goals. From that the coach supports and guides the client in developing his or her own action plan to help achieve those set goals.
Professional coaches provides a safe, nonjudgmental place for their clients to be held accountable to themselves. This is accomplished through monitoring the clients’ progress towards the implementation of the plan to achieve the goals they set. Together with the professional coach, clients move towards implementing their action plan.
As a partnership they grow and adjust the action plan to better suit the needs and relationships of the client. Professional coaches are mirrors for their clients and share unbiased perspectives with their clients. They aim to educate their clients about specific skills and insights that will help empower their clients to achieve their goals.
Ultimately, the client is responsible for their personal success and achievements in the relationship with a professional coach. They must commit to taking action at the coach’s insistence.
Professional coaching is in no way professional clinical counseling or therapy. The techniques and skills used in each are specific to training, education, technique and licensure.
